Harry Kane’s header fired England to a 1-0 win over New Zealand as their preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026 continued.

Kane flicked home a header just before half time, as England were rewarded for their tireless effort in stifling conditions in Tampa.

The Three Lions continued to plug away, as 22 players took to the pitch for Thomas Tuchel, but Kane’s goal proved the difference between the sides.

Tuchel’s men will now face Costa Rica in Orlando on Wednesday, before they open their World Cup campaign on Wednesday 17 June against Croatia.

England’s first sight of goal came just before the quarter hour, as Ollie Watkins found space in behind but his effort was skewed off target.

Kane then brought a first save out of Max Crocombe a few minutes later, as the captain fired an effort from outside the box that was well met by the Kiwi keeper.

The Three Lions continued their pressure but were unable to carve out too many clear cut opportunities, with Kobbie Mainoo the next to try his luck from range but the midfielder’s effort was high and wide.

Kane then forced an acrobatic save out of Crocombe, as he rose highest to meet a Marcus Rashford cross after brilliant play down the left and his header was tipped over the bar.

Rashford then had an effort of his own from outside the box but he couldn't find the target.

The breakthrough came on the stroke of half time, as Kane expertly flicked a header home from an excellent Djed Spence cross from the left to register his 79th goal for the Three Lions.

Thomas Tuchel changed his entire side at half time, but the Three Lions were straight on the attack after the break with Dan Burn close to converting from an early corner.

England continued to work hard in the Florida heat, with Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon combining neatly to almost play in Ivan Toney.

Gordon then struck an effort from the corner of the box which was blocked, before debutant Rio Ngumoha’s follow-up was also smothered by the All Whites’ defence.

Toney was then brought down in the box, only for a potential penalty to be ruled out by an offside flag following a lengthy VAR check.

Bellingham saw an effort fly wide after intricate footwork carved out some space, before Gordon then called Crocombe into action again with five minutes remaining, but the New Zealand goalkeeper easily held the shot as Kane's first-half header proved the only goal of the game.
