What happens behind the scenes with the England team during the FIFA World Cup 2026? What does their day look like today, on Sunday 28 June? Here you can find out in our Three Lions Daily Briefing.

It’s a recovery day for England following their 2-0 victory over Panama in their final group stage game.

Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane were on target in a win that ensured the Three Lions qualified for the Round of 32 as group winners and means they will face DR Congo in Atlanta on Wednesday 1 July. You can read more about our opponents here.

The squad returned to their World Cup base in Kansas City, Missouri immediately after the Panama game and they will now begin their preparations for the knockout fixture.

The headlines

Harry Kane's goal against Panama saw him become England's record World Cup goalscorer. The skipper netted for the 11th time at the tournament to move clear of Gary Lineker. You can find out who else is at the top of that list here.

Kane was full of praise for Jude Bellingham, who got a goal and an assist on Saturday evening, as he explained what makes him a 'fantastic' player.

Thomas Tuchel felt England deservedly won a tough contest against Panama and is confident his side will get better as the tournament progresses.

Bellingham echoed the manager's comments as he said England are aiming to improve in every game.
